Benefits Of Attending Behind-The-Wheel Driving School

Published on 2022-06-27 in Driving Lessons

While it is probably mandatory in your state, the benefits of behind-the-wheel driving school should be a requirement for every new driver. All drivers can learn a thing or two by taking driving lessons with a professional driving instructor. So, what are the benefits of behind-the-wheel driving school? Check out some of our best reasons below!

1. Behind-The-Wheel Driving School Helps With Your Safety

A study by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln showed driver education reduced the number of accidents and traffic tickets for young drivers. The study stated that teenagers who did not receive professional training were:

  • 75% more likely to get a traffic ticket
  • 24% more likely to be involved in an accident with injuries or death
  • 16% more likely to get into an accident of some kind

A study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that the more comprehensive GDL programs are lead to reductions of 26% to 41% in fatal crashes and reductions of 16% to 22% in overall crashes, among 16-year-old drivers.

2. Behind-The-Wheel Driving School Provides Driving Experience

While you can gain a lot of information from taking online courses or watching YouTube videos, nothing is going to prepare you more or give you more experience than getting behind the wheel yourself. By attending a driving school, you are preparing yourself with situations you will encounter when on the road. This experience will help you stay more calm and controlled when a situation occurs.

3. Behind-The-Wheel Driving School Can Teach New Driving Skills

While all driving situations are new to new drivers, there may be special circumstances that bring on new driving situations for other drivers also, like moving to a different state or climate or buying a new vehicle. These situations (along with others) require you to learn new driving skills. By taking some behind-the-wheel driving lessons, you can pick up some of those new skills needed.

4. Behind-The-Wheel Driving School Can Fix Bad Habits

If you have some driving experience under your belt, you might get more comfortable behind the wheel and pick up some bad habits along the way. As a new driver, you may have been in a car with someone and saw these bad habits, so you think it is okay to do since the driver you know did it also. However, the driving instructor in a driving lesson can help you correct those bad habits you may have picked up along the way.

5. Behind-The-Wheel Driving School Teaches Driving Etiquette

While there are a lot of rules to follow when on the road, there are also rules of driving etiquette to follow that allow us to share the road with other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. During your behind-the-wheel driving lessons, your driving instructor can help teach you the nuances of driving etiquette in addition to the laws. You don't want to upset anyone and send them into a road rage incident, so knowing what might anger other drivers can help keep you safe when behind the wheel.
