Use this guide to make sure you are in the right place in your licensing journey.

Step 1

Pass Drivers Ed Course

Before you can take your written test at the BMV, you must be enrolled in a state-approved Drivers Ed course. We highly recommend you complete this course before taking your written test.

Register for Driving Lessons

The second requirement before taking your written test is to register for driving lessons. Once registered, you will receive your CDE (certificate).

Pass Written Test at BMV

Registered for Drivers Ed and Driving Lessons, and have your CDE? Time to take your written test at the BMV!

Take Driving Lessons

Passed your test? Great! Now you are ready to take your first driving lessons. Reserve your spot now so you can get going as soon as you have your permit.

Pass your Road Test

After completing your online Drivers Ed course and driving lessons, you can take your road test. Make a reservation at the BMV and pass your test to receive your license or skip the lines and take your road test with us.

Completing our certified online course is the first step to getting your license. We recommend a package that includes driving lessons to get everything you need for your new driver journey.

Step 2: Purchase Driving Lessons

If you have already taken drivers education, purchase and book your lessons to start the process. Once your purchase is complete, we will send you your CDE so you can get your learner's permit.

Step 3: Schedule Driving Lessons

Have your learner's permit? Time to schedule! Use our handy online scheduling system to schedule a lesson with our BMV-certified driving instructors.

One-Hour Lessons

A typical Coastline lesson is one hour long and is customized to your needs and skill level. The time starts from when we pick you up and ends when we drop you off. There is never another student in the car: your time is YOUR time.

How Many Lessons do you Need?

Every driver is different, which is why every Coastline lesson is customized for you. All minors in Indiana require 6 hours of professional instruction, which is six lessons, and we will work with you if it is in your best interest to do more.
