Apply online to receive your Washington Driver License (WDL) number. You'll need it to enroll in driver training or schedule testing.
Pass Drivers Ed Course
Teens must complete a 34-hour driver education classroom course.
Take Behind-the-Wheel Lessons
Complete five hours of driving and 1 hour of observation with a licensed driving instructor
Pass the Knowledge Exam
Pass the knowledge exam to earn your instruction permit.
Practice Driving with Your Permit
Hold your permit for at least six months and log 50 hours of driving practice with your parent or guardian, including at least 10 hours at night.
Pass Your Driving Test
Once you meet all practice requirements and are at least 16, take and pass the road test to earn your first Washington driver license.
