Pre-Apply for a WDL Number

Apply online to receive your Washington Driver License (WDL) number. You'll need it to enroll in driver training or schedule testing.

Pass Drivers Ed Course

Teens must complete a 34-hour driver education classroom course.

Take Behind-the-Wheel Lessons

Complete five hours of driving and 1 hour of observation with a licensed driving instructor

Pass the Knowledge Exam

Pass the knowledge exam to earn your instruction permit.

Schedule your exam

Practice Driving with Your Permit

Hold your permit for at least six months and log 50 hours of driving practice with your parent or guardian, including at least 10 hours at night.

Pass Your Driving Test

Once you meet all practice requirements and are at least 16, take and pass the road test to earn your first Washington driver license.

One-Hour Lessons

A typical Coastline lesson is one hour long, adhering to the Washington state standard of six total lesson hours for all teenaged drivers. Your lesson time starts from when we pick you up and ends when we drop you off.

Will I Pass My Road Test?

Good, prepared, and confident drivers pass their road test. Because of this, we focus on developing and mastering core skills first, including basic driving maneuvers, residential driving, commercial driving, and highway driving! Once you're confident in these skills, we'll help guide you through the road test by explaining the testing process from beginning to end, including administering a mock driving exam during one of your last lessons!

How Many Lessons Do I Need?

Every driver's needs and progress differ, which is why every Coastline lesson is customized for you. Note, all minors in Lynnwood and in Washington are required to take 6 total hours of professional driving instruction. (Need more practice? Not a problem!
