What Is A Driving Instructor?

When it comes to driving instructors, they are professionals who teach people how to operate motor vehicles. Depending on the state you live, many first-time drivers have to meet a certain number of hours behind the wheel with a professional driving instructor. In California, that time is six hours. During that time, these driving instructors will be teaching a variety of techniques to make you a better driver.

What To Expect From Your Driving Instructor

A driving instructor should provide a safe and comfortable learning environment, explain and demonstrate the proper techniques for operating a vehicle, provide constructive feedback and support and help you pass the required driving tests. It's also important that the instructor is patient, knowledgeable and able to effectively communicate with their student.

Overview Of Driving Lessons

At Coastline, we understand that every student is different and will learn at a different pace. Also, depending on where the lesson is taking place, there can be a different set of practice opportunities available. For the lessons, it depends on your state requirements, but in California they require you to take six hours of behind-the-wheel training with an approved professional driving instructor. Those six hours need to be broken down into three 2-hour lessons and cannot be completed in one lesson. Because of that, we have a format for those three lessons and what a student can expect to learn and work on during each lesson, which can be seen here!
