Can Driving School Lower Insurance?

Published on 2021-10-14 in Drivers Ed

There are a lot of rumors that go around when it comes to driver's education. This can be even harder to deal with when most states have different rules and regulations to follow when a teen driver is trying to obtain their driver's license. One question that comes up a lot is can driving school lower insurance? Find out below!

Saving Money On Car Insurance

As far as driving safely goes, it is a combination of experience, muscle memory and technique. By taking driving lessons, you not only gain more experience behind the wheel, but you are being taught techniques to help you become a safe driver. After more practice behind the wheel and doing things the right way, your muscle memory kicks in and you start to do it naturally.

For insurance companies, they determine how much your premiums should cost based on the likelihood of you being involved in a car accident. Because of that, taking a Driver's Ed course and/or behind-the-wheel lessons from a driving school are a great way of lowering your risk of being in a car crash and help improve your rates. Young drivers normally would fall into a high-risk category for insurance companies, so having completed driver's training shows insurance companies you are less of a risk.

Of course, checking with your insurance company can help reassure you about those possible discounts. You will probably have to attend an accredited program and one the insurance company would approve of. So, make sure of what their rules are before signing up for any particular school.

How Much Will You Save?

The discount you receive is truly based on your specific car insurance company. It does vary, but Car Insurance 101 states young drivers will save approximately 10% on their insurance premiums. Of course, some companies might offer bigger or smaller discounts, but the average works out to be about 10%. The insurance company determines how long this discount is good for, so verify all that information with them.
