Driving Lessons Video Series: How To Safely Make A Double Left Turn
Depending on where you are at, some intersections will allow for two lanes of traffic to make a left turn at the same time. This should be a pretty simple task, but the key is for everyone to stay in their lane as the turn is being made. Our Driving Lessons video series continues today, as one of our driving instructors will show you how to safely make a double left turn.
What Is A Double Left Turn?
Not all intersections have this, but sometimes you will approach an intersection and you will see two lanes to make a left turn. The focus of a double left turn should be on waiting for the arrow to turn green and then making sure you stay in your lane as you make the turn. Sometimes drivers can sneak into the other lane without realizing it, so stay focused on the road and stay within your lines.
The Steps
When you approach an intersection and see that it has two lanes to turn left in, the steps are pretty easy to follow. Here are the steps to perform a double left turn:
- A dashed line separates the lanes going through the intersection.
- When the red arrow traffic light changes to green, follow the dashed line while verifying that the car next to you stays on its side of the line.
- Making a gradual arc along the dashed line provides a smooth turn to the new street.
