Need Extra Money? Top Jobs For Retired People

Published on 2021-09-09 in Driving Lessons

You worked all your life to retire, but now you either find yourself bored and wanting something to do or maybe you need a little extra spending money. Regardless, there are plenty of options out there for retired people to put a little cash in their pocket. We have the top jobs for retired people below to help inspire you!

1 - Driving Instructor

If you love helping people learn new skills and value total flexibility in your job, then becoming a driving instructor is the perfect choice for you. At Coastline Academy, we train you to become a licensed driving instructor and help make the roads safer for everyone.

This is a great opportunity for people who are looking for the flexibility in a job and a chance to earn some extra money every week. Coastline is looking for both full-time and part-time instructors, so check out our current openings here!

2 - Tutor

Becoming a tutor would be a perfect opportunity for retired teachers or professors to continue doing what they loved doing, but on their own schedule. If you have any special skills or knowledge, then sharing it with others can help you make some spare cash. You can make about $10 to $75 per hour of tutoring individuals in things like speaking a second language, math, science or writing. You can check out local schools or college campuses for any tutors needed, but these tutoring websites are great also: Wyzant and Tutor.com.

3 - Dog Walker or Pet Sitter

I mean, who doesn't love to spend some time with dogs? Not only will becoming a dog walker give you some extra money, but it will also give you that little bit of exercise we all need. There are many sites with listings for dog walkers or even pet sitters, like Care.com or Rover.com. Set your own rates and earn what you want, but most make anywhere from $10 to $30 for an hour of work.

4 - Youth Sports Official

If you are a sports fan and know all the rules of the game, then help out your local community and become an umpire or referee for youth sports. Your best bet is to contact a local high school athletic office or municipal recreation department to help give you some guidance. They can point you in the right direction for the sport you would like to referee. There may be other requirements, like a fee to get started, but that department will know more. You can make up to $65 or so per game you ref.

5 - Grocery Shop For Others

Do you like to go grocery shopping? Well, not everyone does, but for those that do then this is for you. A great way to earn some extra money is to start grocery shopping for others. This can be done as an Instacart shopper, Shipt shopper or whatever service is provided in your area. I am sure you have seen them around your grocery store, as the shoppers will shop and deliver the groceries to customers. You get paid a base pay plus tips from the customers and can make your own schedule!
