Tips For Ensuring Good Visibility When Driving
When you hit the road for your driving lessons or behind-the-wheel test, you know that having good visibility is key to staying safe on the roads (and accident free)! Drivers are faced with a number of factors that can affect their visibility, including rain, dense fog, and poor street lighting. Even the best of drivers can struggle with these issues, so it's best to know the tricks and tips of the trade before you encounter poor visibility situations. When driving in adverse conditions, keep the following in mind:
- Make sure your windows are clean!
- Clear away objects inside the vehicle that may obstruct your vision. Don’t hang anything on the rear-view mirror such as lucky dice or a car freshener.
- Refrain from putting stickers, signs, and other objects on your windows.
- Tinted windows must meet your state's standards for tint amount and placement. The darker your windows, the more difficult it can be to see!
- Adjust your seat and mirrors so that you have a proper visual field and are comfortable. Use a seat cushion if necessary.
- There should be now video or visual broadcasting devices engaged where the driver may be distracted, aside from any in-car technology already present in the vehicle. Driving is not the time to watch TikTok! This is dangerous and likely illegal in your state.
- Windshield wipers should be kept in good working condition. Use them whenever necessary to ensure clear visibility through the windshield during fog, snow, or rain. If you live in a region where it does not rain often, make sure to get your wipers replaced before rainy season!
