Why Do We Need To Take Driver Training?
If you are in the process of getting your driver's license, you might be asking yourself why you need to take driver training. After all, you know how to drive, right? And if not, you'll figure it out.
Beyond the legal requirements of driver's training in each state, there is a more basic reason why you, as a new driver, need to undergo instruction behind the wheel: the more experience you gain from guided driver's training, the more likely you are to become a better driver.
Making Safer Drivers
As mentioned above, each state varies with its driving requirements and what needs to be completed before your driver's license can be issued. No matter what your state laws demand, it is still very important for new teen drivers to take driving lessons from a certified driving instructor. Not only will these lessons allow drivers to learn the basics of the road, but continued instruction will help a student become more and more comfortable behind the wheel, thus making them a safer driver. When teen students are prepared to drive, we are helping to reduce crash rates among teens drivers and make roads a better and safer place for everyone.
Preparation For The Road Test
When applying for your driver's license, you will have to take a behind-the-wheel drive test at your local state office or certified third-party testing agency. Driver training will help you to learn and practice the skills you will need to pass the driving test. This may include how and when to signal, merge, lane changes, parallel parking, and more.
Lower Insurance Costs
This may not be the biggest concern for you, but it definitely might be for your parents. Many car insurance companies in the United States offer discounts for teen drivers who have successfully completed a driver's education course. Depending on the company, the discount can be as high as 25%! This can save your parents some major money when adding you onto their auto insurance policy, which is mandatory in many states.
Confidence
Out of all the reasons why driver's training is needed, confidence might be number one. When a student successfully completes a driver's training course, they walk away feeling far more confident about their driving abilities than when they started. And that confidence will serve a beginning driver years later, as a confident and well-informed driver is a better driver. This confidence will also help give a teen's parents peace of mind knowing they will thrive behind the wheel.
