Can You Take Drivers Training Online In Missouri?

What is driver's training? Drivers training means behind-the-wheel instruction, extended learning, observation time and classroom instruction provided by a driving school whose purpose is to teach students how to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Can You Take Driver's Training Online In Missouri?
In Missouri, the Missouri Department of Revenue does not require new drivers to attend driving school before earning their permit. For new drivers in Missouri, they take part in the Graduated Driver License Law. The first step in this process is to obtain your Instruction Permit.
To get your Instruction Permit in Missouri, the Missouri DOR requires you to pass the vision, road sign recognition and written tests at a Missouri State Highway Patrol driver examination station. You must also have a qualified person with you in order for them to sign a permission statement. The Missouri DOR does not require new drivers to take a driver education course, but it can always help you with studying and passing the vision, road sign recognition and written tests. Next Step In Missouri: Intermediate License
After getting your Instruction Permit, the next step would be to get an Intermediate License. To get this license, the driver needs to have had their Instruction Permit for 182 days and have completed 40 hours of driving instruction, which includes a minimum of 10 hours of nighttime driving instruction between sunset and sunrise with a qualified person, grandparent or qualified driving instructor, which we also offer driving lessons in Missouri.
The intermediate license does allow you to drive a vehicle on your own, but with restrictions, like how many passengers are allowed in the vehicle with you and a curfew between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.
In summary, Missouri does not require new drivers to take drivers training. However, you can prep for your tests by taking an online Drivers Ed course or get practice behind the wheel and complete your 40 required hours with a professional driving instructor, which the lessons cannot be done online.
New Rules May Be Coming To Missouri
Yes, the rules listed above are currently in place for new drivers in Missouri. However, that could change soon. A new bill in Missouri called HB 1516 states anyone 18 and younger trying to get their license would need to complete a driver’s ed course approved by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission, per KOAM News Now. It is in the beginning stages, but this could mean changes eventually coming to Missouri.
