How Much Does Driving School Cost?
For anyone looking to get their driver's license, then you know it is a process with rules and requirements in place based on the state you live in. Most states require you to take part in some kind of driver's training program, including a Driver's Ed course and/or behind-the-wheel driving lessons completed with a driving school. If your state requires that, then you might be wondering how much does driving school cost? We help address that question today, along with sharing more details regarding driving schools near you.
Find Out Your State Requirements For Driving School
Every state is different, so you want to get this information first. The first thing you should do is check out your state's Department of Motor Vehicle's website and see what type of driver education is required and available to you. Some states may require classroom instruction while others may allow you to take an online course matched with behind-the-wheel training with a professional driving instructor. Knowing your options will help you decide what route to go.
How Much Is Driving School?
Each driving school will have different cost structures, so you want to find out the costs associated with each type of driver education. What is the cost for the course? Is there additional training needed? How much are driving lessons? Do they have a package for both the driver's ed course and behind-the-wheel lessons? Do they have any other fees or charges?
Many students and parents want to know how much are driving schools, which is legitimate. When shopping online, we usually shop and compare, so that should be the same thing you do when looking for a driving school. Compare the different schools and what they offer and see which is a better fit for you.
How Long Does Driving School Take?
There is no set timeframe of how long driving school takes to complete. Each state has their requirements, so it would be based on those requirements. In general, it should probably take, at minimum, three to six months to finish driving school.
For California students, they need to complete 30 hours for the Driver's Ed course, which can be done online. These hours can be done at the student's own pace, so they could do three hours one night and then another hour the next night and five hours over the weekend. They just need to complete 30 hours total working on the course.
For the driving lessons, California requires six hours with a professional driving instructor. These have to be done as three separate two-hour lessons and we recommend taking some time in between lessons to work on what you learned in that lesson. So, this should be done over a few weeks or months process.
At the same time, some states requires new drivers to hold their learner's permit for a certain amount of time before they can apply for their driver's license. This could factor in to how quickly you take those driving lessons also.

Driving School Can Save You Money
In this economy, we know people are wanting to save money and not pay for any extras, like a professional driving instructor when they may not be needed. However, it can actually save you money in the end.
Many car insurance companies will offer you a discount if you can show you completed a driver training course. Also, by learning from a professional, it can help you become a safer and more experienced driver and reduce your chance of getting into an accident, which would keep those premiums lower.
Whether or not your state requires you to attend a driving school, the knowledge and experience you can gain is well worth considering it.
