How Many Points Can You Miss and Still Pass The Written Test For Colorado Driver's License?
For teen drivers in Colorado, the driver's license test is administered by the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles. If you have met the age requirements and are ready to get started on your drivers license journey, then find out here how many points you need in order to pass the written test in Colorado.
First Step - Instruction Permit
The first step to getting your driver's license in Colorado is to obtain your Instruction Permit. If you are under 16 years old, then you must take a DMV-approved Driver's Ed course, which we offer at Coastline Academy. After completing the course, you will have to pass the written test at the DMV to get your permit.
If you are 16 years of age or older, you do not need to take the Driver's Ed course. You will just have to pass the written exam at the DMV office. Because of that, we do recommend taking the online drivers education course to help prepare you for that written test.
Passing the Written Test
For the written test in Colorado, it consists of 25 multiple-choice questions. These questions will test you on your knowledge of traffic laws, highway signs and markings, road rules, road signs and safe driving practices. In order to pass the written exam, you need to answer 20 questions (80%) correctly.
Failing The Written Test
If you happen to fail the written test in Colorado, you are allowed to retake the test the following day. While you are able to retake the exam multiple times without penalty, it might be a better option if you take a step back and study some more before taking it again. To help you study, you could go back over the material in our online Driver's Ed course (including the quizzes/exams throughout the course) or you could review the Colorado Driver's Handbook.
Once passed, you would be issued your Instruction Permit and you are one step closer to gaining that freedom that comes with getting your driver's license!
