Can I Use a Coastline Car For My California DMV Driving Test?
Taking the California DMV Driving Test is a big step, and it can be nerve-wracking. We want you to be at your absolute best on your road test day, and that means being comfortable in the car you take to your driving test. Coastline offers DMV Lesson Packages that include the use of a Coastline Vehicle for the purpose of taking your behind-the-wheel exam!
Here's how it works:
DMV Lessons are scheduled in three-hour blocks. Your instructor will pick you up from a designated location such as your home, work, or school. From there, you will have time to practice driving with your instructor and get comfortable and relaxed behind the wheel. This time may include a driving test review or even a mock driving test to help you get in the right mindset for your actual exam.
After you've warmed up, you and your instructor will drive to the DMV site you have scheduled you test at and check in. Note, your driving instructor will act as your accompanying driver for your test and will supply the necessary paperwork for the vehicle, including valid registration, insurance, and accompanying driver's license. As the student, it will be your responsibility to provide your valid permit and any required certificates of completion if you are under the age of 18.
Once that's done, you will take your test in the Coastline vehicle! Don't forget to take note of where the controls live, paying specific attention to the headlights, windshield wipers, emergency brake, defroster, and hazard lights. When the test is over, you and your instructor will drive back to your designated drop-off location. We hope you pass your test!
Important Note: At the time of this writing, DMV Lessons are available to current Coastline students only. We require you to take at least one non-DMV lesson with us to give you the best chance of success on your driving test and make sure your fundamental skills are ready for testing. Out instructors also need to be able to assess that you are ready to drive safely on your own before taking a driving test lesson. Remember, the road test lesson is not the time to be learning new skills - it's a chance to practice and prepare to do your best!
