The final step before getting your driver's license in Wisconsin would be either taking a road test or applying for a road test waiver (if eligible). If you are taking the road test, you want to make sure the vehicle you are using for the test is ready. After you pass the written, vision, and road sign tests, you may then take the driving test. You will take the driving test with a driver license examiner of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The examiner will check your vehicle for the required equipment. The examiner will also check your vehicle is in safe operating condition. You cannot take the test if the vehicle is not properly equipped, or the examiner believes that giving the test will be dangerous.

You should take the test in a vehicle that is familiar to you. The vehicle must have:

Start and stop the vehicle - You will be tested for the smoothness and safety of your starts and stops; your reaction time; your control of the vehicle when stopping.

Park parallel to the curb, in a space 25 feet long and 7 feet wide - You will be tested for the position of your vehicle before backing; whether or not you bump into the space markers; moving into the space smoothly and at the right speed; parking no more than 18” from the curb; parking near the center of the space; ability to park the vehicle within two minutes; turning the wheels in the correct direction for parking; checking traffic and signaling before you leave the parking space.

Backing - You will be tested for looking over your right shoulder to see through the rear glass; whether your vehicle backs in a straight line or weaves; staying in the proper lane of traffic; backing at the right speed.

Make at least two right and two left turns - You will be tested for driving in the correct lane for turning; giving the proper turn signal at the proper time; turning into the proper lane; making proper traffic checks; turning at the right speed; your control of the vehicle.

Park on a hill - You will be tested for your control of the vehicle; parking no more than 18” from the curb; leaving your vehicle in park or the correct gear; turning the front wheels in the correct direction for parking; setting the parking brake; checking traffic and signaling.

Enter and leave intersections - You will be tested for understanding and obeying the traffic signs and lights; your speed when approaching an intersection; your awareness of the traffic around you; driving in the correct lane; yielding the right-of-way without blocking traffic; making a full stop at the proper place at stop signs.

Understand and obey traffic signs and signals - You will be tested for noticing and obeying traffic signs and signals.

During your DOR behind-the-wheel driving test, the examiner will be watching for your use of good driving rules. You will be tested for:

The distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you

The time has come, as you have finished all your requirements and now you are ready to head to the Nevada DMV to take your driving test and get your drivers license. For the driving test in Nevada, the applicant must provide a vehicle in good condition for testing. The DMV examiner will inspect your vehicle before the test begins to make sure it is safe to drive. If your vehicle does not meet the requirements, you will need to reschedule your driving test.

To be fully prepared for your driving test the next day, you should familiarize yourself with the vehicle you will be driving during the road test. Make sure the vehicle is street legal and without any issues, which would include:

Making sure all the vehicle lights work, including the brake lights, head lights, reverse lights, hazards and turn signals

Familiarizing yourself with all the buttons, levers and instruments in the vehicle, such as the AC controls, turn signals, windshield wipers, headlight switch and emergency/parking brake.

Before you arrive at the Nevada DMV office for your road test, you should make sure that your windows and windshield are clean. These windows should also be free from any cracks. It is illegal to drive with a cracked windshield, so this would prevent you from taking the driver's test.

After making your appointment for your road test, you will want to make sure you have the current registration and proof of insurance for the vehicle you will be using for the test. You will need to present these at the DMV when you check in for your appointment. You will also need to make sure your vehicle meets all of the state requirements:

Driver and passenger doors that open and close properly from inside and outside

When it comes to the driving portion of the test, you want to make sure to follow all the instructions the examiner gives you. You will be asked to perform a number of different maneuvers and drive in different areas of town, including business districts, residential districts, through intersections and more. The examiner will also take you through three school zones during the test to see how you react, whether you slow down or not.

For scoring, it is based on how you do within each section. Here are some of the maneuvers you may be asked to perform:

Reverse 2-point parking. Where you drive past the parking space and then back into the space.

Signal and turn: get into the proper lane and signal your turn for the last 200 feet. Right and left turns will be on your test. Even though they're basic, don't forget to practice these.

Passing other vehicles and changing lanes.

Stop quickly: be able to make a quick and safe stop when the examiner instructs you to at 20 mph.

During the road test, you want to make sure you are watching for bike lanes and pedestrians. You should also remember to check your mirrors, in addition, to actually turning and looking.

If you passed the test, you will go back to the DMV office and they will issue you a temporary license and the actual driver license will be mailed to you. If you failed, no need to worry. Not everyone passes on their first attempt. You can retake the exam until you pass, so you just need to schedule another appointment at least one day later and work on practicing those driving skills in the meantime. Keep in mind the examiner's feedback during the test and work on those points.

What Do They Test During Behind-The-Wheel Driving Test In Nevada?

You are ready to head to the California DMV to take your driving test after completing all your requirements. It is time to get your driver's license! While some rumors state the DMV Driving Test Inspector will try to trick you into failing the test, we have stated that is not the case. Before the test begins, there will be a pre-drive checklist done by the inspector to make sure your vehicle is fit to be used for the behind-the-wheel test. You don't want to forget any documents needed at the DMV, so check out that list here. Since you will be completing your driving test while at the DMV, you will need to bring in proof of insurance and proof of registration for the vehicle you will be using for that driving test. Also, know where these documents are in the car in case you are asked to provide them during your test. You should make sure the tags and insurance are up-to-date on the vehicle, as well as the front plate is affixed and there is no blackout tint on the windows.

Once inside the vehicle, the DMV examiner will ask you to locate and/or demonstrate the vehicle and driver safety items listed below. If any items in the Pre-Drive Checklist (items 1-8 or 15-17) do not pass the criteria requirement on your vehicle, which is known as a "mechanical failure," you will need to reschedule your driving test.

While the DMV examiner is going through this checklist, if you cannot locate and/or demonstrate the operation of four or more items from Items 9-14, then your driving test will be marked as "unsatisfactory" (failure). If there is inclement weather present, you must be able to demonstrate that items 11-14 work properly or the driving test will be rescheduled.

According to the California DMV website, these are the requirements for each Pre-Drive Checklist item:

Driver Window: The driver-side window must be able to open. If it is closed, you will be asked to open the window.

Windshield: You and the examiner must have a full, unobstructed field of view provided by the windshield.

Rear-View Mirrors: The vehicle must have at least two mirrors. One of the mirrors must be located outside the vehicle on the left side. The second mirror can be located outside of the vehicle on the right side or inside the vehicle in the center. These mirrors must be secure, unbroken, and provide clear visibility.

Turn Signals: The right and left turn signals on both the front and back of the vehicle must be working.

Brake Lights: Both brake lights on the back of the vehicle must be working.

Tires: Each tire must have 1/32-inch tread depth in any two adjacent grooves. Also, the vehicle cannot have any bald tires.

Foot Brake: You must have at least one inch of clearance between the brake pedal and the floorboard when the pedal is pushed.

Horn: Your horn must be designed for the vehicle and in proper working condition. It must also be loud enough to hear from a distance of at least 200 feet. The horn cannot be a bicycle horn.

Emergency Brake (Parking Brake): You must be able to locate and demonstrate how to use the emergency brake (set and release).

Arm Signals: You must be able to show the DMV examiner arm signals for a left turn, right turn, slowing down, and stopping.

Windshield Wipers: You must be able to locate the windshield wiper switch and/or control wipers.

Defroster: You must be able to locate the front windshield defroster button.

Emergency Flasher (Hazard Lights): You have to correctly locate the emergency flasher switch/button if the warning vehicle is equipped with emergency flashers.

Headlights: You need to correctly locate the headlight switch.

Passenger Door: The door on the front passenger side must open and close properly.

Glove Box: The door to the glove box must securely close.

Seat Belts (Safety Belts): All vehicles that are designed with seat belts must have seat belts for both you and the driving test inspector. The seat belts must work properly and be used by the individuals in the car.

For the actual road test, it will be testing the applicant on two parts: driving and maneuverability. During the driving portion, the following will be performed (via the Ohio BMV website):

For this portion of the test, the applicant will be asked to perform the following tasks:

Drive forward through a 9’ by 20’ box formed by four markers. Measurements are taken from the center of the marker.

Examiner will direct driver to steer to the right or the left of the center marker.

Steer straight ahead and stop when the rear bumper of the car is even with the center marker and generally parallel with the course.

From a stopped position at the end of step one, driver must back past the center marker.

Straighten the car and back through the box, coming to a stop with the bumper even with the two rear markers and generally parallel with the course.

You have one final step to complete before finishing the test. Now the driver must remove the vehicle from the test area without running over markers or performing any other disqualifying actions. Stopping, bumping markers, misjudgment of stopping distance, and not being parallel with the test area are all deductions from the overall point total. It is an immediate failure if a driver runs over or knocks down a marker, or removes the marker from the designated area.

If you have passed all portions of the drive test, then you will need to go to a deputy registrar to be issued a driver license. At that time, you must surrender the TIPIC.

If you do not pass the drive test, you are allowed to retake it two times. You must wait seven days before doing a retake. If you fail the test three times, you will have to go through the whole licensing process again.

For new roundabout drivers, it can be a scary task to take on, but we are going to share some rules to help you navigate a roundabout properly.

For those not familiar with roundabouts, it is a type of intersection that features a central island. Roundabouts do not have traffic lights. Drivers enter the roundabout, drive counter-clockwise and then exit at the appropriate lane. Most roundabouts have one or two lanes for drivers.

Roundabouts are there to help improve traffic capacity, as studies by the Federal Highway Administration show an improvement of 30 to 50%. Roundabouts also have helped reduce overall collisions by 37%, injury collisions by 75%, fatality collisions by 90% and pedestrian collisions by 40%. They also help reduce maintenance costs for cities, as there are no traffic lights to power or maintain.
