Coastline Academy Acquires Excel Driving Instruction In Indiana

Coastline Academy is excited to announce the acquisition of Excel Driving Instruction in Indiana, offering online drivers education and behind-the-wheel driving lessons in Indiana starting today, April 22, 2022.

In a statement from Stuart Summers, founder of Excel Driving Education, he said, “After serving the community for 23 years, I’m excited to see Coastline continuing our tradition of excellence in driving education in Indiana, making the roads safer for everyone.”

Previous Excel Students

For those students that enrolled in the online Driver's Ed course with Excel, you should be receiving an email from Coastline soon. We know that you have completed the online Driver's Education course and are ready to start the behind-the-wheel driving lessons. The email will fully explain the steps you need to take to complete this process and get your Certificate of Driver Education (CDE) in hand, which will allow a 15-year-old to take the written test at the BMV to get your learner's permit and begin your driving lessons.

In The Meantime

While you wait to get the email and get everything in place with this transition, we recommend studying the Indiana Driver's Manual, which is available online, to get ready for your test at your local BMV office. The written test is multiple choice and consists of 50 questions, broken down here:

• 16 questions on signs/markings/color and you can only miss 2 of these
• 34 questions on the rules of the road and you can miss no more than 6.

You do not need an appointment to take this test for your permit, but they do stop giving tests one hour before closing. If you fail the test, you must come back another day to retest. There is a permit fee of $9.

The Indiana BMV has provided this website to give you a list of documents needed to get a Real ID-qualified permit. Also, you will be asked if you want to be an organ donor when you visit the BMV for your learner's permit. You should talk with your parents about this before you go.
