If you are a new driver in Colorado, you are probably trying to get everything in place so you are fully prepared to get your driver's license. During that process, you might be wondering how many hours do you need with a driving instructor in Colorado? We give you the details below!

Minor Instruction Permit

For teens in Colorado, the first step in getting your drivers license is to complete a Drivers Ed course. Once you have successfully completed the course, you will need to head to your local DMV office and take a written test to earn a Minor Instruction Permit.

Once you have your permit, if you are younger than 16 years and 6 months, then you must take six hours of professional driving instruction. In addition to the six hours with a driving instructor, you will need to complete 50 hours of driving practice. Of those 50 hours, 10 of them must be done at night. You must also hold your instruction permit for 12 months before applying for your driver's license.

Minor License

After meeting the above criteria, you can then take the behind-the-wheel driving test at the DMV to earn a Minor License. This license is good for 20 days after you turn 21 years old. You would then need to go to a DMV office to get an Adult License.

Hours Needed With Driving Instructor

To sum it up, new drivers in Colorado will need to complete a minimum of 56 hours of driving time before applying for their drivers license. Of those 56 hours, 6 hours must be completed with a professional driving instructor.
