How Many Hours Do You Need With A Driving Instructor In Ohio?
If you are looking to get your driver's license in Ohio and have met the age requirements, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles has certain criteria you must finish first, which includes taking a drivers ed course and completing your behind-the-wheel driving training hours. You may be wondering how many hours do you need with a driving instructor in Ohio? Every state has their own rules, so we address that topic below!
Behind-The-Wheel Training
Before beginning your behind-the-wheel training, you must first complete the Driver's Ed course (24 hours) and then pass your written test at the BMV office. Once those are completed and passed, then it is time to begin your behind-the-wheel training now that you have your permit in hand.
For the behind-the-wheel training, the Ohio BMV requires you to take eight hours of driving lessons with a BMV-approved driving school in Ohio. These driving lessons will teach you the practice of safe driving, as you learned the theory of safe driving in the classroom instruction.
For these lessons, the BMV only allows you to take up to two hours per day of driving instruction, so you will need to do at least four days of lessons to meet this requirement. You will also need to complete all 32 hours of the required driver's ed training within six months of starting the program.
In addition, you must complete 50 hours of behind-the-wheel training, 10 of which are done at night. These hours are to be completed with a licensed driver who is at least 21 and has had their drivers license for at least one year. This is not part of the Driver's Ed requirement, but you will need to complete the 50 hours in order to get your driver's license.
