Should I Learn To Drive From A Friend Or Go To A Driving School?

Published on 2021-11-15 in Driving Lessons

Getting your driver's license is a milestone in your life. Before that can happen though, you must learn how to drive and pass the driving test at your local DMV office. There are different ways for students to learn how to drive, depending on the state where you live. You may be asking: Should I learn to drive from a friend or go to a driving school? We take that topic on below!

Learning To Drive With A Friend/Relative

While many new drivers want to be able to share the experience of learning how to drive with their friends and family, it may not always be the best idea for everyone involved. When you are with a friend or relative, you might end up socializing more than you are focusing on the road. Also, your friend or relative may have forgotten some of the proper driving techniques taught during a driving lesson. Just because your friend or relative has a driver license, it does not mean they are the best person to teach you how to drive.

Learning To Drive At A Driving School

While your friends and relatives have their driver license, professional driving instructors are specifically trained to provide driving lessons to students. When dealing with a driving school, the instructors will teach different skills to the teen drivers in a more aligned approach. The instructor explains the new technique and answers any questions and then the student performs the technique until no errors are made.

During the driving lessons, students practice the different driving skills while the instructor is observing the process. Once all the skills and techniques can be completed without any mistakes, it is time for the driving test and a chance at getting your driver's license.

Friends and family may also be worried about hurting your feelings and not wanting to put down your driving skills. However, a driving instructor will help critique your driving skills and give you pointers/tips to help you improve.
