What Do You Take To Nevada DMV To Get Your Learner's Permit?
The time has come and you are ready to get behind the wheel for the first time ever. The journey to get your driver's license can be stressful and confusing, so we are going to start you on the right path. You need to start out with your permit, so what do you take to Nevada DMV to get your learner's permit? Find out below!
First Step: Begin Studying For Written Driver's Test
In order to get your Nevada's learner's permit, you will need to pass a written knowledge exam. This exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions and to pass, you will need to score at least 80 percent. To help you prepare, the Nevada DMV has a sample test you can take. You can also use the Nevada Driver's Handbook to study up on the state's traffic laws, safe driving practices and highway signs.
Second Step: Get Your Documents Together
If you arrive at the DMV office and don't have all the proper documents you could be turned away. Because of that, you want to make sure you gather all the correct documents in advance. The documents you will need are:
- Your birth certificate
- Your social security card
- Two items showing your residential address, which could be a report card, school ID or bank statement
- A Certification of Attendance from your school
Third Step: Take The Written Driver's Test
You have studied and prepared and you have gathered all your paperwork. Now it is time to head to the DMV office and take the exam. If you live in Las Vegas, Reno, Carson City or Henderson, then you need to schedule an appointment in advance. All of your documents will be submitted before taking your written knowledge exam and vision test. If you pass both tests, you will receive your Nevada learner's permit in the mail within 10 days.
Fourth Step: Practice Driving
Now that you have your learner's permit, the next goal is to get your driver's license. In order to do that, you have to get comfortable behind the wheel. You need to practice safe driving and to follow all of Nevada's permit restrictions.
With your permit in hand, you are only allowed to drive with a licensed driver who is 21 or older and sitting in the front seat. After you turn 16 and you have had your learner's permit for at least six months, you can officially apply for your driver's license. Remember, the learner's permit expires after one year, so you will either need to get your driver's license or renew your permit within 12 months of when it was issued.
