What Do You Take To Colorado DMV To Get Your Driver's License
If you are ready to apply for your driver's license in Colorado and you have met the age requirements, then you might be wondering what do you take to Colorado DMV to get your driver's license. You don't want to forget anything and delay the process even more, so make sure to use our checklist below!
Documents Needed Depend On Age
When it comes to getting your driver's license in Colorado, what is needed depends on your current age. Here is a breakdown by age category and what you need to bring with you to the DMV office.
16 years to 16 years, 6 months
Before coming to the DMV office, you must have a valid Colorado Instruction Permit for one full year. You must also complete six hours of behind-the-wheel driving lessons with a state-certified instructor, which Coastline offers. Have a completed and signed Drive Time Log Sheet with a total of 50 hours of driving time, which includes at least 10 hours of driving at night. Then you must pass the behind-the-wheel drive test.
If all of that is completed, then you need to bring the following with you to the driver license office:
- Valid instruction permit
- Completed and signed Drive Time Log Sheets
- Behind-the-wheel completion certificate
- Drive Test completion form
- Identification documents
- Applicable fee
16 years, 6 months to 18 years
For this age range, everything is basically the same except you do not have to complete the six hours of behind-the-wheel lessons with a state-certified instructor. However, you will still need to pass the drive test, so taking those behind-the-wheel lessons could be very beneficial to you!
Once you have those steps completed, then you will need to bring the following with you to the driver license office:
- Valid instruction permit
- Completed and signed Drive Time Log Sheets
- Drive test completion form
- Identification documents
- Applicable fee
18 years to 21 years
For this age range, you must obtain a valid Colorado Instruction Permit. However, you do not have to hold it for one full year before applying for your drivers license. You do not have to complete the six hours of behind-the-wheel lessons with a state-certified instructor or the 50 hours of driving time. However, you do need to pass the drive test, so taking those driving lessons could be very helpful to you!
- Valid instruction permit

You are on that final push to get your driver's license, so make sure you have everything in hand and completed before heading to the DMV office in Colorado!
